Peek Inside Less than Perfect

Mikayla thinks her books have prepared her for aliens taking over Earth. Nor is she prepared for the attention of a good-looking refugee named Reg. All Mikayla and Reg want is a safe place to hide. But on a mission to restock their supplies, they are captured by The People and prepared for the procedure that will make them perfect, but no longer quite human. In order to escape, they need to rely on each other...if Mikayla can trust a man who seems too good to be true.

Mikayla’s read every book in her collection of post-apocalyptic novels at least twice. She thinks she’s prepared for aliens taking over Earth. She’s not.

Nor is she prepared for the attention of a good-looking refugee named Reg.

All Mikayla and Reg want is a safe place to see out the end of the world, hidden away from the aliens that call themselves The People, but cities of the depopulated United States not infested with The People are rife with gangs, the detritus of civilization and disease.

On a mission to restock their supplies, Mikayla and Reg are captured by The People and prepared for the procedure that will make them perfect, but no longer quite human. In order to escape, they need to rely on each other…if Mikayla can trust a man who seems too good to be true.

Praise

"The story was fast paced and seemed to pack a whole lot into a novella. The action very rarely stopped, but it didn't feel like it was overly rushed." ~ Hot Off the Shelves

Okay, so full disclosure: the author and I have gotten chummy through her wonderful book blog. She never asked me to read her novella, much less review it. But I took a stab at it anyway, because I've come to respect her and the premise of the story sounded pretty damn interesting.

Still, I admit... ...more

This story does an excellent job of telling a post-apocalyptic story from the standpoint of one of its victims. Ms. Jensen writes clearly and thoughtfully, her prose performing as the perfect backdrop to enhance the turmoil and imperfections of her very human protagonists. In a world where humani... ...more

This was the first book of Kelly Jensen's that I have read and I was pleasantly surprised. Less Than Perfect is the telling of Mikayla and Reg's survival and developing romance post Alien invasion taking over the world. Certain aspects of the book reminded me of The Host which is probably the onl... ...more

I'm not normally one for the romances, but with the promise of apocalypse coupled with alien takeover this seemed worth a go. I'm glad to say that it didn't disappoint. While there's the gushy stuff, it's not enough to detract from the main story of a girl and the people she's fallen in with tryi... ...more

I finally got this book to work on my kindle this morning and finished it by about half four in the afternoon, taking every spare moment I had in the day to get through a few pages.

Quite simply, I loved it. Mikayla is a compelling character partly because she makes poor decisions, making her far... ...more

Nothing could have prepared Mikayla for the alien invasion, not even all the post-apocalyptic novels that she's read. The invaders, known simply as The People, seek to perfect the human race - whether they want to be or not. While doing her best to simply survive in a world that's different than... ...more

In the interest of transparency, I’ll preface this review with the note I’m the original Kelly Jensen fangirl, having known her for four years now. I even have the patch on my jean jacket to prove it. (Not really.)

Even if I didn’t know Kelly, though, this book would still work for me. It’s a nove... ...more

I received a copy of this book in place of an honest review.

Whoever thought that Aliens would come down and take over the world? That is what happens in this book. They are called The People and want all humans to go under a procedure to make them perfect. I know that might sound good but people... ...more

This is a story about surviving as Aliens take over the earthy and turn humans into 'perfect' people....the day to day struggle as some people help each other and some turn lawless. About the author

Kelly Jensen

If aliens ever do land on Earth, Kelly will not be prepared, despite having read over a hundred stories of the apocalypse. Still, she will pack her precious books into a box and carry them with her as she strives to survive. It's what bibliophiles do. Born in Australia and raised everywhere else, Kelly now lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, daughter and herd of four cats. After disproving the theory that water only spins counter-clockwise around drains north of the equator, she turned her attention to more productive pursuits such as reading, writing, writing about reading and writing stories of her own. She also enjoys volunteering at her local library, playing video games and holds a brown belt in Kiryoku, a martial art combining Shotokan, Aikido and Tang Soo Do. Her family is not intimidated by her.
