In Compound Eleven, the hierarchy of the floors is everything.

My name is Eve Hamilton, and on my floor, we fight.

Which at least is better than the bottom floor, where they toil away in misery. Only the top floor has any ease in this harsh world; they rule from their gilded offices.

Because four generations ago, Earth was rendered uninhabitable—the sun too hot, the land too barren. Those who remained were forced underground. While not a perfect life down here, I’ve learned to survive as a fighter.

Except my latest match is different. Instead of someone from the circuit, my opponent is a mysterious boy from the top floor. And the look in his eyes tells me he’s different…maybe even kind.

Right before he kicks my ass.

Still, there’s something about him—something that says he could be my salvation...or my undoing. Because I’m no longer content to just survive in Eleven. Today, I'm ready to fight for more than my next meal: I'm fighting for my freedom. And this boy may just be the edge I've been waiting on.

Praise

“This was well thought out, had great prose, and beautiful character development. I loved the fact that each character stayed in character throughout the novel, but still developed. They were multi dimensional, and well done. I actually really enjoyed the concept/plot. It was different but so fun.” --Brittany Z., NetGalley

Oh my goodness, what a page turner!” --Heather S., NetGalley

“Escaping Eleven is an immersive, action-packed story about one girl’s fight for freedom.” --Julie P., NetGalley

This book is like Divergent meets The Maze Runner with a heroine who could break your face in roughly ten seconds. Yeah, it's THAT good.” --autumn M., NetGalley

“Escaping Eleven was a brilliant, beautiful story that made me want more from this world. I was pulled into the story every time I sat down to read it. This was a m a z i n g and I’m so thankful that I got to read this.” --Laur G., Goodreads

“A wonderful, exciting, yet confronting debut that YA readers’ll love.” --Minca H., NetGalley

I am here to tell you that if you EVER enjoyed the YA dystopian era, then you need to pick this book up! I honestly just loved the book.” --Chelsea H., Goodreads

“Escaping Eleven is a wonderful story that paints a gritty dark scene of a ruined earth and a society forced underground to survive. It is a story reminiscent of "Wool" and "Mocking Jay" (al a District 13) in the very best ways.” --Nikki H., NetGalley

This book was an exciting read, even though I had a few problems with how it was written.

It follows Eve, a resident of Compound Eleven, the haven people fled to when the Earth overheated. Over time, the haven became worse and worse, and now, Eve is confined to a place where she fights to make a liv ...more

“Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above ones head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday and no tomorrow. To forget time, forget life, to be at peace.”

RATING:

I'm going to start with what I didn't like about this novel...the writing. Don't get me wrong, the story was well developed and engaging, but as I read it felt like I was reading a stilted conversation with disjointed thoughts. One sentence would contain proper speaking and contractions (exam ...more

5/5 stars!!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First things first, I binge-read this book until 4am. I couldn't put it down and just read it for hours until it was over. And then I hated myself because it was over and now I have to wait a while for book 2.

Escaping Eleven was simply THAT book. It had no business being that amazing. Reading it brought me back to a time when dystopian books were big in YA and reminded me how much I love the genre.

The first chapter alone gave us such a tease. We got introduced to mysteries, secrets, and tense family ...more

I’ve been a fan of dystopian novels for years, and I’m glad they’re making a comeback. With the MC being a fighter, I felt shades of Katniss from the description.

Saying Eve is a strong female protagonist is an understatement. She’s fierce, physically strong, confident, and occasionally independent t ...more

Escaping Eleven is the thrilling beginning to a dystopian series that is wholly captivating, and feels slightly evocative of series like Divergent and The Hunger Games.

This book was really good! It's definitely one of the more violent and aggressive novels I have read (so be ready for that) and I won't lie I was kind of into it, depending on the situation. Meaning that there were some uncomfortable parts and there were some parts where I was very happy to see some ...more

About the author

Jerri Chisholm

Jerri Chisholm is a YA author, a distance runner, and a chocolate addict. Her childhood was spent largely in solitude with only her imagination and a pet parrot for company. Following that she completed a master’s degree in public policy and then became a lawyer, but ultimately decided to leave the profession to focus exclusively on the more imaginative and avian-friendly pursuit of writing. She lives with her husband and three children, but, alas, no parrot.
