Lucy Locket, the long lost granddaughter of a duchess, has never been a part of Society. One day, she was living a secluded life as the prisoner of a criminal, and the next day she was an heiress in a world she did not even remotely understand. She does not embody the typical qualities of a well-born lady...at all. She can't curtsy, she doesn’t hide her emotions, she’s too clever by far. But in three months, she must marry a suitor with a royally-bestowed title, or she forfeits a fortune—leaving her and the duchess in dire straits.

All Henry Beaumont wants is to prove himself to Society and step outside of his half-brother’s shadow. So when the duchess asks him for a personal favor involving her newly found granddaughter—with a hefty thank you reward at the end—he leaps at the opportunity.

It seems as if Lucy is trading one prison for another. Henry has now become a permanent fixture as her charming yet iron-fisted taskmaster and tutor in the ways of High Society. Like oil and water, Lucy and Henry spar in an epic battle of wills—and even rapiers. But Lucy’s past and her surprising, undeniable feelings for Henry may doom their undertaking if he declares his love for her...because without a title, he can never be hers.

So unique and entertaining.

I love the character Lucy in the story. She’s rough and tough and absolutely nothing like the lady she’s supposed to be. But that’s a part of her charm and you really can commiserate with her as she struggles to learn the proper etiquette.

I really loved our Miss Locket, or rather Lady Margaret aka Lucy, aka Crusoe (inside joke). The life she had was ripped from her. The one replacing it, while not necessarily ideal, was more than what it could have been. Henry's got a past, but the weight he carries isn't really his to carry. It was ...more

A heroine and hero that meet as children and then years later, she as a thief and he with bow street. Perfect for a love match you say? A witty and snappy read. From the first moment Lucy and Henry meet as children they have used words as sword play. When they meet as adults they have only sharpened their skills. This is the second book I've read by Mr. North and this one did not disappoint. Her father believing her dead soon died himself when his ship ...more

This was real fun :D! And the writer is a guy that decided to write regency romance? Gender progress is always progress, I guess. Anyway, the pacing was fast and mostly felt nice enough for me to enjoy it. I found myself grinning through most of it. If life is hard and 2020’s harder, do yourself a f ...more

Lucy Locket has gone from being a prisoner of a criminal to discovering that she is an heiress. However, she has only three m ...more

About the author

Sawyer North

Sawyer North began writing historical romance after a torrid affair with the genre several years ago. As he is male, this proved a surprising turn of events. An engineer by day, he spends nights and weekends inventing characters, plotting stories, and trying witty banter on his wife until she makes him stop. Fair Weather Enemies is his first published romance novel. Visit him at www.sawyernorth.com and on Twitter @MrDarcyExplains.
