When artist Brie Lark left her vampire ex and her straitjacket of a hometown to breathe free in New York City, she promised herself two things: she’d never go back to Meiers Corner, and no more vampires. The last thing she expected—or wanted—was to be sent back home on an assignment. But her boss at the FBI needs her undercover on a murder case, working with a black-haired, black-eyed giant god of a man who’s her idea of perfection, except for one thing—he’s a vampire.
FBI Special Agent Seb Rikare is an ancient vampire hardened by loss. He’s cut all emotions to protect himself and leads a deliberately steady, almost sterile life. The brash young woman forced to pose as his lover irritates him, with her jangling bracelets and colorful hair. But as much as she irritates him, he finds himself drawn to her lively spirit and he’s tempted to make fantasy a reality.
“Simply awesome. I always loved to read books with romance but it is even better when the romance has a paranormal twist. Hot and sexy vampire Seb meets once small town girl and know FBI agent Brie and sparks fly. This book had some amazingly hot scenes that made it feel like it was 100 degrees in here!” –Laurie B., Goodreads
“This story is almost non stop action. An absolutely fabulous book. I can't wait for the next in the series!” –Petula W., Goodreads
“I was thoroughly entranced by my first experience of Mary Hughes' work and I’ll certainly be following up with her back catalogue. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys character driven paranormal romance with a touch of action to keep it interesting.” –Prue O., Goodreads
“Night's Caress brings a fresher look into vampire lore romance and I appreciated that!” –The Book Disciple
“This was sensual, twisty and just plain hot!” –Hello Booklover

At first I was a bit worried I wasn't going to enjoy this, but surprise, I did ended up liking it - including the characters who I didn't really warm up to until second quarter of the book or so.

Investigations by the FBI usually make great thrillers but when you add in that the Special Agent in this story is also an ancient, powerful vampire you have the recipe for a brilliant paranormal thriller and that is certainly the case in this story! Mary Hughes is a new author for me and I’m very happy I was given the opportunity to review her latest work. I discovered about half way through Night’s Caress (Ancients #1) that it is a spin-off from her series Biting Love. However, there is no need to have read this series first; Night’s Caress... ...more
This was my first read by this author and it won't be my last!
Whilst I hadn't read the series this is an offshoot of -Biting Love- I didn't feel lost at not knowing all the characters from previous books. This is definitely Seb and Brie's story.

The only complaint I had on this wonderful new series was the alternate POVs. It is told equally in 1st person by Brie and then third person from Seb's perspective. And as much as I hated the jar out of reading bliss each time this happened, I'm still giving it five stars. I love, love, love this... ...more
