Secrets and lies, scandals and spies.

All Lady Catharine, Viscountess Cranbrook, wants is a little excitement. Bored of playing the role of the ton’s favorite slightly scandalous widow, she jumps at the chance to go undercover as a courtesan to help with an espionage mission. After all, beneath her outrageously low bodice beats the heart of a patriot.

Social reformer James Burnham is conducting a study of vice in England’s capital. Driven by his own secrets, he is methodical, intelligent—and wickedly handsome. Catharine is the last sort of woman the upstanding James should want. But want her he does, though she stands for everything he opposes.

When Catharine and James are forced to band together to advance their causes, they’ll be drawn into a web of secrets and lies that endangers their lives—and their hearts.

Review

Filled with intrigue, danger, and daring escapadesthe intrepid hero and heroine will not have a straightforward romance with thisauthor doing the writing!  Get ready to investigatepossible treason, rescue some poor orphans and learn more about the charactersas their endeavours help them learn more about themselves. ~ Splashes Into Books

There were some great action scenes and a nicesuspense thread running throughout the story, and Catherine's revelations aboutherself and her desires for her future really made the story for me. It waswell researched too, giving some insightful and new to me information on thegun-making industry in that era. 5 stars for another very enjoyable read fromMs. Holiday.  ~ Harlequin Junkie (A Top Pick)

I really felt for Catharine when her the life shethought she'd wanted began to unravel and she was forced to choose between theman she loved and her duty to her country. It's an interesting role-reversal,because so often in spy-stories, it's the male character who is put in theposition of having to lie to or betray a loved one and make those difficultchoices. ~ All About Romance

This is book three in the "Regency Reformers" series. I did feel that this was a standalone book so if like me you are jumping around in the series it should be okay. Lady Catharine, Viscountess Cranbrook is a widow who is somewhat board and has gladly started playing a courtesan to help in a esp... ...more

I've given this a B- at AAR, so that's 3.5 stars, rounded up.

This third novel in Jenny Holiday’s Regency Reformers series is chronologically the first, as it takes place around a year before the events of the first published book, The Miss Mirren Mission. As in the other books, Ms Holiday has t... ...more

This is the third story in Jenny Holiday’s captivating Regency Reformer’s series (though chronologically it happens first, and all three of the stories can be read as standalones), and tells the tale of Catharine and James. Catharine is a widow, her husband having died in the war and leaving her... ...more

I started reading this having completely forgotten that I had read and liked The Likelihood of Lucy, the previous book in this series. While I think I prefer Lucy, this book had plenty of compelling character dynamics and interesting plot twists to keep me invested.

Chatarine is a Viscountess who leads a double life and has a bit of a reputation. She is a rich widow who fills her time socialising with the ton where she is very popular with the young men. There were parts of this story that were very enjoyable, and then there were parts that I just couldn't get into.

To begin with, the very idea of a woman (high-bred lady or not) being paid for handsomely in a brothel for just conversation is simply laughable. I also found it unfathomable that som... ...more

In this genre by this author when you open these pages you will find it hard to come around once you begin this adventure. Catharine Chambers, the Viscountess Cranbrook is pretending to be a whore. She is in disguise, because even though in her "normal"life she is not the most respectable widow of the ton, this action would be beyond the pale. About the author

USA Today Best Selling Author

Jenny Holiday

Jenny Holiday started writing in fourth grade, when her awesome hippie teacher, between sessions of Pete Seeger singing and anti-nuclear power plant letter writing, gave the kids notebooks and told them to write stories. Most of Jenny's featured poltergeist, alien invasions, or serial killers who managed to murder everyone except her and her mom. She showed early promise as a romance writer, though, because nearly every story had a happy ending: fictional Jenny woke up to find that the story had been a dream, and that her best friend, father, and sister had not, in fact, been axe-murdered. From then on, she was always writing, often in her diary, where she liked to decorate her declarations of existential angst with nail polish teardrops. Eventually she channelled her penchant for scribbling into a more useful format. After picking up a PhD in urban geography, she became a professional writer, and has spent many years promoting research at a major university, which allows her to become an armchair astronomer/historian/particle physicist, depending on the day. Eventually, she decided to try her hand again at happy endings--minus the bloodbaths. You can follow her twitter accounts @jennyholi and @TropeHeroine or visit her on the web at jennyholiday.com.
