She may have to live in their world, but she doesn’t have to play by their rules.

Bryn’s hopes for a peaceful new semester at school go up in smoke when someone tries to kill her—again. She’s not sure which is scarier, facing the radicals who want to sacrifice her for their cause, or her impending nightmare-of-a-Directorate-arranged marriage to her nemesis, Jaxon.

The one bright spot in her life is Valmont, her smoking-hot knight who is assigned to watch over her twenty-four hours a day. Is what she feels for him real, or just a side effect of the dragon-knight bond? At this point, stopping the impending civil war might be easier than figuring out her love life.

The Going Down in Flames series is best enjoyed in order.

5 stars: "As I sat there readingTrial By Fire, I felt like I was there. I felt like I was watching everythingfirst hand. The mystery that is in Trial By Fire keeps you guessing on what isgoing on. There is magic in this book, and Chris Cannon has capturedit!" - Kelly Mccurdy, Kelly's NerdyObsession
5 stars: "The wait for this book was absolutely worth it. From beginning to end, this book did not disappoint. Anotherfantastic story by Chris Cannon."- No Escape Like a Book
"Anothergreat installment in this Dragon fantasy world!" - Ana, BookHookup
"Overall, [Trial By Fire]was well-written and hard to put down. I am looking forward to the next book."- Diane Lynch
Another good installment and although this book did have an underlying storyline it did feel like it was primarily about connections. Friendships, partnerships, family and relationships. [...] So bring on the drama but you can't fool me Mrs Cannon, I know your end game!" - Gia
"I really enjoyed the first two books and the third was no exception. I found it was the type of book with a continuing story one where you look at all of them put together as one large story cut into different books. When I look at it that way I don't mind as much. It is one of my favourite dragon series books out there and I'm looking forward for more from this series!" - Jennifer, The Field Guide to Reading

I was really thinking whether I wanted to take time and write a review or not.

So when I started this series way back when, I loved it. Now reading the third book in the series I still feel the same way. This book has more dragons, more knights, and more angsty Jaxson. I thought Bryn was going to make changes "in a big way" during this book, but she's actually doing something better. She's making changes and, they don't even see it yet or at least the Directorate doesn't.

Once again, great book fragment, but the wrap-up pages at the end were just awful. Obviously, it's still the middle of the story, nothing is resolved; why try to pretend it is?
